When I scalloped out the grass and soil to get the shape of this backyard patio, you stand back and if you were looking at the patio from the roof of the house, the shape is like a VW bug.
Another beautiful stone that the homeowners had a great eye for, when it came selecting stone flavour.
The mixed grey shades of the body of the patio and the dark perimeter stone look stunning. In the final shot with the cathedral steps, the homeowner said they love the backyard now. They could entertain in the backyard and people could sit on the steps for seating as well. I raised his patio up quite a bit off the grade of the back lawn purposely. I don’t like installing patios at the same level as the lawn. After awhile, the stonework sinks to below grade and the grass starts growing in between the stones and encroaches throughout the entire job.
Bottom line, keep the patio a couple of inches above the lawn grade and it should be great for years.
