On this job I had to drive an hour each way every day. The homeowner wanted the fireplace to get a facelift. But there was some demolition to do along with some framing. The fireplace wasn’t the usual shape you see when it was finished. The original walls on the fireplace were sloped inward.
We corrected the ugly fireplace, constructed a nice new hardwood mantle, screwed on the cement board to the framing. Before I started with the stonework I replaced the old base tile with a nice thick porcelain tile. Once that was set, I could go ahead with the stone for the fireplace. This fireplace stone came eight pieces per box. It had a mesh backing and the rest is history.
